Project Manager – Engineering Services

Location: Chesterfield, MO (Greater St. Louis Area)

What does the Experitec Project Manager – Engineering Services role look like?

The Project Manager is a part of our Engineering Services organization and is responsible for planning, monitoring, and controlling process control and instrumentation projects in our customers’ manufacturing facilities. The Project Manager will be challenged with process control projects and support opportunities involving system hardware design, software configuration, instrumentation design, and plant operations improvement. Our customers are largely manufacturing facilities and Upstream Oil & Gas. We serve many different industries including chemical, power generation, refining, oil & gas, food & beverage, pulp & paper, and water.

What is the Project Manager – Engineering Services responsible for?

The Project Manager serves an important member of our Engineering Services Team. You will work to establish a strong relationship with Experitec’s customers. The Project Manager is accountable for the overall success of the project with primary responsibility for cost management and schedule. The Project Manager will work in partnership with Experitec technical team to ensure project scope and quality as well as maintain strong customer relationships. The Project Manager will work with plant operations, process engineering, maintenance, and technical support to manage delivery of solutions in partnership with our customers.

Typical work assignments include:

  • Be the primary conduit of communication between Experitec and the customer regarding all project activities. Be responsive, punctual, and follow-through to completion.
  • Foster strong working relationships with the customer. Tailor communications to their needs.
  • Manage customer expectations. Thoroughly document the initial scope, schedule, and budget and report monthly to the Business Unit. Report on progress to the baseline scope, schedule, and budget. Offer change orders that demonstrate the potential effect to budget and schedule if the customer wishes to adjust scope.
  • Approach the customer with value engineering opportunities.
  • Communicate customer expectations to the project team and the department managers in appropriate detail.
  • Track and report progress of the project to the working scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Monitor customer satisfaction throughout execution of each project. If customer expectations are not being met, investigate and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with appropriate internal and external personnel on issues such as incidents and complaints.
  • Work with Engineering Services Managers to plan, staff, organize, and direct service activities.
  • Work with Engineering Services Director to manage financial aspects of contracts to mitigate Experitec’s risk and while maintaining good relations with the customer.
  • Work with other internal and external subcontractors to provide a complete solution to the customer.
  • Establish project objectives, policies, procedures and performance standards within the boundaries of company policy and contract specifications.

Who can do this job?

The following are preferred attributes/skills:

  • Ability to effectively document status and communications.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once.
  • Ability to assume responsibility for work outcomes and results of other employees.
  • Ability to manage projects of multiple engineering disciplines.
  • General understanding of all aspects of Plant Engineering, which include control systems, instrumentation, electrical, pumps, piping, valves and general process equipment.
  • Understanding of plant operational procedures.
  • Experience programming DeltaV or other DCS.
  • Experience programming PLC.
  • Experience implementing plant automation projects.
  • Broad Experience with Process Validation.

Other basic qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5 years project management, project planning, cost control and scheduling, or other related experience in an industrial manufacturing environment. Process control automation experience is a plus. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Microsoft Project and Excel skills. Ability to understand project documents (Scope, RFQ, URS, Logic Diagrams) and drawings (P&ID, PFD, Loops, Schematics, Single-Lines, Network Architecture, etc) is a plus.
